Back to London on the way home

We boarded the plane about 2am in Bahrain to head back to London and arrived about 9 am London time. When we flew over, we could see the DMZ in Iraq and oil fires below. Kinda cool.

We only had about three hours in London and it was the first time I had seen it during daylight hours. We went to Buckingham Palace and the National Gallery. It was so amazing seeing all those original paintings... and so many of them painted right there in London. Crazy.

We made it to London overnight, Bahrain for three days, London again and back home all within five days - I think even four technically, by U.S. time. Exhaustion is the least you can use to describe how we felt, but we did not complain too loudly because a) we got to go alone, without children and b) we didn't pay for a thing except the hotel and food in London and c) we got to leave the country, even if it was a whirlwind. All in all, by my book, a great trip. :)

Off to the Middle East

The morning after we landed in Bahrain, I had a personal escort to take me around the island. I saw some amazing things but there are just too many photos to post.

Big Ben chiming

My first trip to London

I was so thankful to have a layover in London. The plane landed about 7 pm and we, after traveling all day, had to see as much as possible. It was cold, but we managed to stay out and tour until about 1am, then jumped on a plane about 10am the next morning. This first picture was the very first scene I saw in London... we got on the 'tube' in the airport, and emerged on this street.
